President a concern February 2024

I’m writing to highlight a major issue at hand with weekly PSSA school sport being cancelled due to the high bus costs and unreliable services (as emailed by the School last week). Our zone consisting of fifteen schools have been forced to go to a gala day system with only two a Term compared to weekly sport, this is a dramatic drop in sport available for our children and does not send the right message in this day where we are trying to get children active and outside. The Herald did an article on this Sunday and it gained some traction and support with ABC breakfast radio picking up the story Monday and interviewing me live to discuss. I have been working with Mr McKinnon and Mr Russell (PSSA Zone President & LCPS teacher) who are keen to keep weekly inter school sport going and to find a solution for the zone moving forward, I have spoken to state Memebr Anthony Roberts on this matter and he is also looking for a solution. I’ve had numerous other schools reach out to me with the same issue in other zones across the state since the article and radio interview, I have also had many paretns reach out to me with real concerns and fears this could be the end of weekly inter school sport, it would be a shame to see weekly sport lost for future children to enjoy and keep active. Please feel free to reach out to myself or the school on this matter. I will keep you updated once more information comes to hand.

Kind regards

Caleb Taylor

LCPS P&C President
